Media: Did anyone see mX yesterday?

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

…Virgin Mobile is the ‘hottest membership in town’. And apparently front page news.

Exhibit A*:

Virgin Mobile vs. the news

And on the inside, the ‘REAL’ cover/aka Exhibit B:

On the inside - mX

To be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about this. My first gut reaction was sheer outrage, the media ethics idealist inside of me wondering what Habermas would think of such newspaper behaviour. On the other hand, the media realist inside of me understands that mX is a free commuter paper and as such, relies on advertising to exist. And I do like mX on my afternoon commute home.

Hmm…thoughts?

Wow! As much as MX is a free newspaper; ideally I would have thought it was still the ultra-condensed way of giving people that have been too busy to read the newspaper a chance to do so on the way home. And to have a giant ad on the front first – before an actual news item? Tacky.
