I’ve been thinking about the future lately, just for something different.
I often think I would love love LOVE to start my own magazine – it would be feminine, intelligent, indie and so damn cool.
That’s the dream, anyway.
My prospects are looking up, I suppose, what with more and more niche titles appearing in newsstands, setting out to prove that magazines are more than mere pages of advertisements with the odd article thrown in here and there. The increasingly prominence too of online publications, is a comforting idea for the magazine optimist.
So this brings me to my big question for all you readers, one which has been plaguing me for the past few months -
Where did Dujour Mag go???
For those who don’t know, Dujour Magazine was, and I quote, ‘America’s first independent, internationally distributed, eco-friendly fashion publication dedicated exclusively to emerging designers.’
I wrote about this delightful find a few months ago -
Dujour is a print and digital magazine which is published bi-monthly, featuring articles on fashion and style, beauty and shopping. Founded by editor Letitia Burrell, Dujour is exactly what I’ve been searching to satisfy my craving for new and exciting fashion inspiration.
Burrell began Dujour as “she was uninspired with what was being offered on newsstands and felt nothing could relate to her in terms of high fashion that inspired while at the same time mixed with realistic fashion she could attain, all with a generous dose or artsy fun and intelligence” - About, DujourMag.com
Amen to that, sister. The best part, however, is Dujour actually delivers all it claims to. It’s arty, girly, clever and delightful. But most of all, it’s something different to all the other print publications out on the stands at the moment – and trust me, I’ve done my research.

Only a few short months later, and it’s disappeared. I’m not even kidding. Try following those links to their website – gone! Their Twitter account? Unchanged since August, an alarming fact given their non-stop twittering earlier in the year!
I’m no detective and I’m very confused. For such a terrific publication, with a decent premise and horde of followers, what happened? How did it fall through the cracks? Is this really the future for independent publications like Dujour?
I hope that someone will respond to this post letting me know that they’ve merely changed their name, direct me to their new FUNCTIONING website and Twitter account and I can be in the wrong. Perhaps I’ve just missed something huge and in posting this, point directly to my shortcomings as a media commentator. Hmm.
Fingers crossed!
