I absolutely adore the concept of having different covers of the same magazine for subscribers.
It’s like a fun reward for merely enjoying something!
Rather than having to be subjected to the hard sell from dozens of headlines screaming out at you from newstands (BUY ME! BUY ME!), a subscriber edition not only comforts itself with the fact that it already has you, the reader, but also rewards you with a headline-less, marketing-scheme free cover. These covers aim to speak more about the magazine and its identity, rather than trying to get issues off shelves.
A simple concept, yes, but why wasn’t it thought of earlier?
Today, I’m loving Lady Gaga on the subscriber’s edition of January 2010 US Elle.

Both covers ARE stunning, of course, but I’m a sucker for black and white with diagonal cover lines.
