Yes, he’s back – Scott Schuman, otherwise known as the genius behind The Sartorialist fashion blog, will be signing books in Melbourne on Friday 11th December at Sass and Bide’s GPO store in Bourke Street. I’m so there and will be dressed as per the instructions from Refinery29 below.

…I would buy almost every single pretty dress from French Connection‘s latest collection.

Broadwalk Stripe Sleeveless Dress – $149.95AUD

Opal Sleeveless Dress – $129.95AUD

Just Klimt Dress – @129.95AUD

Fast Creamy Crochet Dress – $199.95
But, instead of rushing to the shops to spend money I do not have, I will spend my time contemplating the role of advertising in shaping consumer choices for my Marketing Communications essay. Perhaps I should use myself as a case study.

Loving this modern take on the rocking chair -

The only problem I really have with this Bruehl Lucky Modern Rocking Chair (@Trendir) is that I would feel awful crushing the pretty flowers whenever I felt the need to sit down.
It actually reminds me a bit of this Fendi dress from their Spring Collection 2009.

Manvi over at Mochatini has posted at 2Modern’s designtalk about this beeeeautiful blossoming chair by Kenneth Cobonpue.

Manvi writes -
This lounge chair is sculpted by hundreds of fine running stitches radiating from the center of the seat creating subtle textures. Invisible supports form shapes reminiscent of soft and graceful musical tones. The Bloom sits on top of a steel base which provides a good counterpoint to its playful organic form. Form and function at its best! With winter around the corner, I would totally love to cozy up in it. Love the color too!
Now, whilst I think it’s a beautiful piece of furniture that I would adore to have in my house, given my penchant for flowers and considerable lack of gardening expertise, it also looks like it could potentially swallow its occupant whole.

Whilst perhaps a bit impractical, I do adore these suede petaly creations by Moroso.

Give me a flowery chair over a bunch of roses any day of the week!

I’m not sure I’m all that into fluro things. Perhaps it’s merely an residual hatred due to that fluro tracksuit pant trend of years 10 and 11, or maybe simply because fluro things are jarring and IN YOUR FACE – who knows.
Regardless, I still think these Assettes Cassettes are pretty nifty blasts from the past. (Yes, I am old enough to remember cassettes – sad, isn’t it.)

I feel a bit behind the times. When I was in Japan, we fell in love with the multi-storey stationery store in Ginza, Itoya. In it, DesignTavern bought some Helvetica stationery, including a super-awesome fantastic red pen/blue pen/black pen/pencil and a notebook. At the time, I merely giggling at the novelty of it. When I spied this necklace in the latest issue of Frankie, I was very excited!

Little Shop Of – $18.00AUD
However, upon Googling what other cool products exist out there, I discovered that there was actually a film….
Yes, a film entitled – ‘Helvetica: A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit‘.
Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which recently celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives.

I feel frustratingly naive. That being said, I am in awe of this production and cannot wait to hear more about how a font has changed the world, dramatically speaking.

So I’ve had a bit of a rocky day today. I’d prefer not to relive the details, but it was a right DOOZY of a day. Tomorrow, I shall take myself shopping to cure the heartache and depression caused by too much work during my uni holidays. Sound Goods?

I posted a few months ago on the beautiful Mochatini about the delightful stationery company out of Melbourne (who ship worldwide!). During mine and DesignTavern‘s recent trip to Japan, we had a love/hate relationship with our Phaidon Wallpaper Guide for Kyoto. Our blatant inability to read Japanese addresses, combined with the frustration built up by hours of cycling around the city (believe me, it’s more romantic in theory than execution…), was probably to blame.
Despite this, when we eventually navigated ourselves (with the notable help of many, MANY locals) to the right location, we stumbled across some fantastic locations and decidedly anti-touristy gems. One of our faves, Iremonya.
IREMONYA – Kyoto Made Office and Homeware

Boasting a HUGE array of quirky, useful and oh-so-cute boxes, folders and other assorted organisational knick-knacks, they’re Kyoto made and we fell in love. Appropriately, we left, bicycle baskets full to the brim, with a small assortment of their colourful offerings. Travellers, beware – they err towards the heavy side so exercise restraint!

I’m not sure if it’s that they’re Japanese, if it’s their colours, their happy smiley faces or all of the above, but my little pink box sitting on my desk always brings a smile to my face.
